【Statement】
I explore the possibilities of new landscapes in the contemporary world by layering different eras and contexts.
Drawing upon motifs such as the passions found in classical literature, the vibrant presence of ukiyo-e, beautiful figures, memories accumulated within cities, and people living in the present day,I interweave these elements through the language of Japanese painting.
Through this process, I seek to create contemporary paintings that reveal “layers of gazes,” where the past and present, the external world and the inner self, resonate with one another.
Emerging within these compositions are beautiful young women who inherit the lineage of bijinga (paintings of beautiful women) while carrying a distinctly contemporary atmosphere.
Although I sometimes work with real-life models, I intentionally anonymize their features.
They do not represent any specific individual; rather, they exist as mediators connecting the viewer with the world of the artwork.
In 2024, I began exploring new possibilities through physicality and spatial relationships by presenting my first independently organized live painting performance.
Going forward, I aim to expand this exploration into the realm of moving image and video expression.
